VOLUNTEERING

DEFINITION OF PATHWAY

Volunteering is an activity that takes place in not-for-profit organisations or projects and is:

  • done by choice
  • without payment (except for the reimbursement of expenses)
  • for the benefit of the community

A volunteer does not replace a paid worker.

OUTCOMES

Volunteering has many very positive benefits. These include:

  • being involved and contributing to the community
  • using skills and learning new ones
  • developing additional social and job networks
  • improving health and wellbeing.

ELIGIBILITY
The service is available to anyone seeking voluntary work.

ACCESS

The service can be accessed through a personal appointment, telephone information or website job database.

A personal interview is conducted in a relaxed and informal atmosphere at our offices. This is particularly useful for people who have never previously volunteered or who have no idea of the type of opportunities available. The interviewing staff are volunteers who have considerable experience in matching skills and interests to jobs.

They will discuss:

  • the type of task the person is interested in
  • with whom the person would like to work
  • preferred location
  • making appointments with organisations offering the preferred position/s
  • details of the agency and position.

SUPPORT AVAILABLE
The referral service is staffed by volunteers who show and explain the available voluntary work options based on the skills and interests of the individual. The Helpline is available to people and organisations interested in volunteering and volunteers-1300 30 10 18
