UNIVERSITY 1
What we’ve got here is a close circuit television. This is an excellent piece of equipment for people who have reduced vision. They can put their piece of information on the table and make it as large as they want, or as small as they want. There is a variety of technology to help there, and what we have here is a special computer that is fitted with zoom text and jaws and that’s an excellent tool for people with a vision impairment. We also have computers that are fitted with dragon dictate, which is for anyone who can’t actually use a keyboard, so they can just speak to the computer. There are various assistive hearing devices, lecture theatres are fitted with hearing loops, or some students may use an FM system. There is library assistance available, there is after hours access available, there are scanning machines and there is lots and lots of help available. Students can talk to lecturers about alternate forms of assessment if that’s going to cause them problems. A very big thing is any student who is involved in a course, who has a field experience, because that may take some extra organising.
