DEFINITION OF PATHWAY
Recreation is a vital and integral part of a healthy lifestyle for all
people. Being involved in recreation is important to a person’s
sense of value and identity.
Recreation
Link-up is an organisation that provides recreation planning, information,
education and introductory assistance for people with a disability. Recreation
Link-up can make it easier for people to become involved in activities
in their local community.
The two main services include:
Personal Recreation Planning
This service assists people to become involved in an activity of their
choice by developing a Personalised Recreation Plan that includes steps
to achieve ongoing involvement. The plan is developed during an informal
interview that takes approximately 45 – 60 minutes
Recreation Telephone Information Service
Offers up to date information on a wide range of recreational activities
in the local community.
If there is an activity you would like to try, some people you would
like to meet, or if you would like to know what is available in your community,
Recreation Link-up can assist you. There is a huge range of recreational
and social opportunities to explore and choose from.

Recreation allows you to:
- learn new skills and
- refine others
- increase confidence and self esteem.

ELIGIBILITY |
Anyone with a disability is eligible to use
this service. |
ACCESS/TRANSPORT |
Service users will need to use their own transport
to access recreation options. Recreation Link-up staff ensure that access
can be gained by the appropriate type of transport i.e. buses, trains,
walking, bicycle, taxis or private car. |
COSTS/FUNDING |
This is a free service however service users pay
any fees associated with their chosen activity. |

SUPPORT
AVAILABLE |
Up to 3 support sessions can be provided to
support people with disabilities to become independent in their chosen
activity. Support may be provided for:
- motivational purposes
- transport training
- confidence building.
If an interpreting service is required, please call Telephone Interpreting
Services on 131 450 and ask for the interpreter to call Recreation-Link-up.
A fee is charged for this service.
