INTRODUCTION 4
Having a post-school employment service involved in a student’s transition plan meeting can be very important and useful for their future. Leaving school can be a scary time for both students and parents. Post-school services can help prepare students for work, before they leave school. They have a good understanding of the skills students need to get a job. Services specialise in assessing a student’s work interests, organising and supporting them on work experience placements and locating an appropriate job. Most services will continue their support when they are working for a period of time, to ensure both the student and their employer are happy. This process can take some time, so having services involved earlier on in the Negotiated Education Plan and the Transition Plan, can be helpful. Services understand how necessary it is to work collaboratively with students, parents and schools to ensure the smooth transition from school to work.
