Mt Gambier Parent Forum June 2021

Parents and carers of government preschool/school students with a disability, are invited to attend our first Parent Forum in Mt Gambier

This forum, the first to be held in Mt Gambier, will include a keynote presentation from Director, Disability Policy and Programs, Ian May on ‘Supporting learners with disability’.  In addition, there will be presentations on the following topics:

Anxiety  – presented by Angela Falkenberg, President, SA Primary Principals Association
Fearful and anxious behaviour are common in childhood and can take many forms.  Anxiety can impact sleep, thinking, relationships and physical health.  This session will share information about what anxiety is and explore some simple, accessible strategies to build resilience and reduce the negative impact of anxiety.

Inclusive Education – presented by Lynette Corletto and Andrew Fewster from Student Support Services
This session will cover topics including, how to work with the school re student’s needs, One Plan, interventions, and support to achieve positive outcomes for children with special needs in mainstream schools.

What is important to parents/carers about the One Plan – presented by Kerry Parker, Assistant Director Disability & Learning, Disability Policy & Programs and Rosie Copelin, Senior Advisor, Educator One Plan, Disability Policy & Programs
As we are in the process of re-designing the One Plan process and system to ensure it best supports the growth and learning of students, we would love to hear from parents and carers about :
   – What’s working well
   – What’s not working so well
   – What would you like to see in a new and improved One Plan in future
Come prepared for a free and frank discussion to help us improve One Plan.

The forum will provide a safe and supportive environment to share your experience, obtain information and helpful strategies as well as providing the opportunity to have your questions answered.

The information you provide will also assist us in the planning of future forums.

This forum is for a limited number of parents and carers and will be held maintaining current COVID 19 guidelines.
